If you follow me on social media (@michaela_lorren on instagram) then you know of our sweet news. We announced back in December of 2020 that we are expecting our second baby. Needless to say, we are overjoyed and feel so blessed to be welcoming another baby into our family.
But wow, pregnancy is crazy. So many changes that happen so quickly, and it seems all the more quickly this second time around. I’m looking forward to sharing week by week of how I felt, my symptoms, and things I’ve noticed that are different than my first pregnancy.
Weeks 3-6
We found out we were expecting at 3 weeks and 3 days. Things were still so early but I was already experiencing quite a few symptoms. I didn’t have any symptoms with my first (Nora) until 6 weeks! I found that I…
- Had a loss of appetite. Just wasn’t very hungry.
- Craved breakfast foods. Syrup, pancakes/waffles, eggs, you name it. Breakfast food just sounded sooo good. I definitely remember it sounding good with Nora too, but a little later and before I had an aversion to everything haha.
- Nauseas I was very queasy most days, but it was totally bearable and would come and go. T
- Really tired, not exhausted, but I juuust didn’t have my usual energy.
- I stayed so cold!
- Crampy but very light cramping
- Bloated all of the time (Not cute like a baby bump is haha)
Weeks 7-9
This is where things really picked up. With my first baby, I had severe morning sickness that never really went away until the end of my second trimester. So I was kind of prepared for that again with Baby #2. This time…
I was vomiting all day long and nothing was helping at this point. I was pretty miserable to say the least. Food aversions also came on strong similarly to my first pregnancy. Nothing sounded good. I also had occasional cramping and was still –ugh– bloated. I was craving French Toast sticks though, which is something else I experienced around the same time with Nora.
Week 9 I actually felt somewhat better. The vomiting kind of took a break, which I was so, so thankful for. Butttt it wasn’t gone for good unfortunately. Mostly just had a feeling of grossness and fatigue.
Weeks 10-11
- Still really nauseas throughout the day, mostly vomiting in the mornings and sometimes evenings at this point
- Food aversions were somehow worse than before. It was really hard to even think about food . But having an empty stomach made the nausea worse so I really just had to push through.
- Sore/uncomfortable breasts. I feel like this happened a lot later this time! I remember feeling this much earlier in my first pregnancy.
- Mild cramping more often. Nothing that was especially painful, just uncomfortable. It was easy to worry, but deep down I knew all was well.
- Hot flashes
- Craved Pringles
- I started to see a bump and was actually able to feel baby move when I pressed my hand/fingers flat against my lower belly. So incredible and so joy bringing! I did not have a bump until 14 weeks with Nora, and didn’t feel her until 18 weeks due to an anterior placenta.
Weeks 12-14
By this time things were beginning to feel more on a “routine”. I was only vomiting in the mornings when I woke up and had specific hours of the day where I felt better or worse overall. Mostly worse but every now and then would have a good day. By early Week 14 (present) I’m…
- Really feeling Baby move at this point. Those little wiggles feel stronger and more obvious. I no longer have to focus on them to notice them.
- Able to eat a wider variety of foods. The food aversions seem a bit better, though there’s still a handful of things I gag at the thought of.
- Just still so exhausted and no energy whatsoever.
- Still have “vomiting” as part of my morning routine.
I’m looking forward to better days, that’s for sure. Pregnancy is hard y’all and the first trimester is never easy for me. But also so thankful for this sweet little human I’ve been blessed to carry. So excited to meet them in just 6ish months!
