Create a Cozy Space With These 7 Tricks

January 20, 2021 Homemaking, Making it Home

Who doesn’t love a welcoming space? I’m a homebody and stay at home mama so it’s a big priority of mine for my home and my space to be inviting. For it to be somewhere I enjoy to be, where my family enjoys to be, and where my friends feel at home. Today, I’m sharing a few tips to create a cozy space. Things I have found that never fail to bring warmth and tranquility to our abode!

create a cozy space

1.) Light candles

Something about that warm, flickering light gets me every time. My favorites are my mama’s hand poured candles or candle sticks in old fashioned, vintage candle holders. So simple but adds so much.

2.) Diffuse Essential Oils

Besides being beneficial for your health, essential oils can also have great effects on your mental state. Diffusing mood enhancing oils like Bergamot, Lavender, Peppermint, Young Living’s Valor, Stress Away, or citrus oils can tap into the happy side of your brain. If it’s a cozy/calming aroma you’re after, my favorites are Cinnamon Bark, Frankincense, Young Living’s Peace & Calming, or Thieves! Absolutely perfect to create a cozy space!

3.) Make your space your own!

Think of the things that bring you joy. Is it your family? Your pet? Certain color schemes? What are your hobbies? Reading? Art? Bring those things into your space. Perhaps photos of your loved ones. What colors are you drawn to? Do you find lighter/neutral colors more inviting or darker moodier tones? Souvenirs, collectibles, knick knacks, books, journals, things that bring back memories or simply bring you joy, incorporate those things.

4.) Organize + Declutter

Sometimes too much stuff can be overwhelming. I know I can’t think straight when my house is out of order or if my workspace is a wreck. But some people prefer “organized clutter”. Obviously a spotless space isn’t practical, and that’s okay. But absolutely do what you can and what you prefer to clear the clutter.

5.) Warm up your home/space with something yummy!

Food is very inviting to me hehe. But so is the smell. So is knowing something yummy is in the oven, or crock pot, or coming my way in general (you feel me on this one??) There’s something about a plate of cookies, fresh baked bread, a soup simmering, coffee brewing, or the steam rising off of a hot cup of tea. Ahh, see what I’m saying? Just thinking about those things warms my soul. They’re undeniably so heart and house warming.

6.) Music

Music really sets an atmosphere. What are your go-to tunes for winding down? My favorites include acoustic/folk, oldies (I’m talkin’ real old here, like 40’s-60’s), piano/instrumental, and worship music! Any and all of these can quickly put me into good spirits and bring a relaxing vibe to my space.

7.) Declutter inwardly

Hard days come, and less than favorable moments can’t always be avoided. But our attitudes rub off onto others and can change the atmosphere for better or for worse. Determine to (as best you can) find the good in your day or at least in the moment, count your blessings, speak life to those around you, and accept the invitations of the inviting space you’ve created.
