I Took A Chance… (Literally!)

     I’M MARRIED. Say whaaaat? It’s honestly still crazy to say! (Is that a newly wed thing? Probably so.) Chance proposed at the end of last summer and we got married February 11th!

We are both simple people, and we wanted a simple wedding. Which worked out great since we only had a couple of months to plan! Though sweet and simple, it truly was beautiful. We often describe our wedding and the day as a whole as “perfect”. Neither of us were nervous, nothing went wrong, and we were together. (Finally! Long distance relationships are so worth it, but so hard!)

We love the outdoors, so we definitely wanted an outdoor venue! A sweet family at our church so graciously allowed us to use their beautiful property for our special day. We were wed under their trees and beside their pond with only family present.

My Mama so conveniently used to work for a florist when I was a little girl. She has always had an eye and talent (among about a billion other ones! I’m convinced she’s Wonder Woman!) for flower arrangements and such. As soon as the flower part of planning came up, I immediately knew I wanted her to be the one to do all of my flowers. My daddy may have walked me down the aisle, but I wanted a lil’ bit of Mama to go down with me too. I wanted to walk down the aisle with a bouquet that my Mama made. And ya’ll, the woman made the the boutonnieres, the corsages, and all of the arrangements! Just like everything else she puts her hands to, she did an absolutely beautiful job! All of her decor that day was stunning. (Thank you so much Mama!)

I love coffee, and I love coffee shops. And since we had such a small group of people, Chance and I decided it would be a fun, laid back, cozy location for the reception. And it was! His mom did the decorating, and it was beautiful! She totally has a knack for party planning and an eye for decor! As Mr. & Mrs. Harbison we cut our cake, and enjoyed the company of our loved ones over a cup of coffee, cake, and lunch. (I actually had a chai tea latte! So good, you guys. So good.)

We honeymooned in the mountains of North Carolina. Chance surprised me and reserved the cutest cabin for us! We explored the mountain we stayed on as well as the historic towns and spots around us. One of the afternoons we decided to hit up a local ice cream shop and bought great big ice cream cones! They were super yummy and we devoured them while walking around town. (The antique shops were my favorite!)

When the new hubby and I weren’t out and about, we were inside marathoning movies and eating junk food. We also cooked a lot together! Since we were going to be there a while, we didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on food, so we cooked and made most all of our meals at the cabin. Cooking together was super fun. We tried some new recipes and enjoyed lots of old favorites too. Valentine’s Day fell in our honeymoon week, and instead of dining out, we decided to avoid the V-day dinner crowd and made homemade pizzas together! That was bunches of fun, and we even shaped them into hearts, hehe!

Chance got a fever three days into the honeymoon, which I ended up getting as well. (Bleh.) While he recovered super quickly, I lost my voice and continued to fight whatever it was all the way up until the day we left! Of course that didn’t stop us at all from enjoying our stay in the mountains. The night before we were to go home, we got all fancied up and drove about an hour away to Asheville, NC for a nice dinner. The drive was beautiful and the time spent there and back was so sweet. (Fun Fact: The place we ate at ended up having portion sizes so small we went across the street to McDonalds for dinner afterwards, Ha!)

Ah, but we had so much fun that week! So, so many memories made, so many smiles, and oh so much happiness! I’m so excited for the plans God has and for the life Chance and I have ahead of us. How wonderful to get to learn, grow through, and experience it all with my best friend. I sure love him somethin’ mighty fierce, ya’ll. And as I always say, he’s the best Chance I ever could have taken. //
