Uncertainty is hard. When we don’t know where we’re going, what we should be doing now or later, which direction we should turn, the answer to a decision that needs to be made. It’s difficult, scary even sometimes, when we have no absolute clue what is going on. It’s confusing when we have different paths in front of us and we can only walk one. Discouraging when clear answers to our questions don’t seem to be given in the timing we would like for them to be. Here are five comforting verses for when you are facing the unknown, confusion, worry, anxiety, or need of a lil’ reminder to press on with great faith.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Sometimes, we forget that God has a plan, and that we don’t need one of our own if we are following His. And then there’s times when we know that He has one, we just don’t know what it is. We aren’t big enough to see what’s over the hill, but God is. He does. He knows what’s coming, He knows what’s ahead. And if you follow Him, He’ll lead you right to it, blessing you for your trust and faithfulness all along the way.
Proverbs 3:6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he shall direct your path.”
While in pursuit of your direction, don’t lose sight of God. Because He is your direction. Keep Him ever present in every step you take. Acknowledge Him, and He will guide you. Talk to Him about every decision, every fear and uncertainty. Submit them to God. Submit yourself to God.
James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”
God has promised us so many times in his Word that He will give us wisdom if we seek it and ask it of Him. When we need guidance and direction, when we need knowledge and wisdom, He gives it. Go to God for wisdom in both the big and small things in life. Ask, and it’s yours.
Matthew 6:25-36, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”
Jesus was reminding us that, hey, God takes care of the birds! And that if they are taken care of, imagine how much more important we are…how much more will He take care of us? God watches over and takes care of His sons and daughters. When you don’t feel like you’ve got this, it’s because you don’t. God’s got this. And while it’s kind of scary to realize we have no control, it’s comforting to know that the control belongs to the one who loves us so fiercely, and has nothing but the best in mind for us.
Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Cast your anxiety and worry onto the God who loves you so and wants so badly to lift such heaviness from you. Wants so badly to give you peace and rest.
So don’t lose heart, dear friends. Don’t let fear and anxiety in. Let God in. Let Him in and let Him do His thing. Trust in Him. Ask for that wisdom. Know that He’s got this. Give it all to him. And watch as he gives you that peace that surpasses all understanding.
