Homemade Sourdough Croutons

sourdough croutons

When homemade bread doesn’t get eaten within the first few days, it tends to lose its soft freshness. Often times, this is when I would make French toast but another way I’ve recently been using it up is making homemade croutons! This is such a yummy addition to salads and an easy store-ditch!

This recipe is so very easy, and absolutely delicious. As well as leaving plenty of freedom for variety of seasonings and seasoning combinations (you could even add cheese like parmesan)! (P.S. I use my leftover sourdough bread, but your bread does not have to be sourdough. Any leftover bread will do.)

Homemade Croutons

Cook Time15 minutes mins
Author: Michaela

Ingredients

  • 1/4 c olive oil (or avocado oil)
  • 2 minced garlic cloves (you can sub with 1 tsp garlic powder)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning blend
  • 1/2 tsp dried onion flakes (or onion powder)

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  • Whisk oil and seasonings together in a large bowl.
  • Cut your bread into 1 inch or so cubes (or smaller/larger if preferred)
  • Toss your bread cubes around in the oil/seasoning mixture until all cubes are coated. (If you find you need more oil/seasonings for the amount of cubes, I recommend just making a second oil/seasoning mixture, or another half of the oil/seasoning mixture). You can also try one to see if you'd like to add anymore seasoning to your preference.
  • Spread cubes on the baking tray and bake for about 15 minutes or until crisp, crunchy, and browned
